Junior Rockhounds

Kids love rocks, fossils, minerals, and crystals. They love dinosaurs and extinct creatures too. Most children just seem to have a natural love for rock hounding. They delight in spotting an unusual specimen unearthed during play. They’ll proudly tell you about the crystal or fossil they found themselves. This natural love makes the perfect inspiration for real learning. That is why kids should be encouraged and be more involved in rock clubs.  Parents may even learn along the way.

The first Saturday of the month the Lismore Gem & Lapidary Club host our Junior Rockhounds Club. Starting at 1pm the kids have the club rooms and workshop to them self’s, all under the instructions of our dedicated volunteers who take the time to pass on there skills to the next generation of rock enthusiasts. Our Junior Rockhounds are also welcomed on club field trips to get and on experience of Fossicking for Gems.

Children under 16 must be supervised at all times  by a parent/legal guardian.

Field Trips

What a great way to get some fresh air, learn something new and have FUN then to join the Lismore Gem & Lapidary Club on one of our Field Trips. Fossicking for some creek treasure like Smokey Quartz from Tabulam, Sapphires from Glen Innes or Chalcedony from our own back yard.

The Lismore Gem & Lapidary Club organises monthly field trips, these Fossicking trip are generally day trips in and around Northern NSW and on occasions a longer trip away.

The Field Trips are Tag Along style with Club patrons meeting up at a known location in your own vehicle. Self-sufficiency is expected, on longer trips the club generally camps, Whether its Camper Tailers, Camper Vans or tents we stop usually in caravan parks. However some trip members do book cabins or other types of accommodation on these trips.

These trips are for Gem Club members.
